Allentown 1 resize.JPG,

One major change has been made in Smooth Operator for 2009. Rather than conducting enforcement in defined "waves", reimburseable enforcement can take place at any time during the year. This will allow police departments to plan their enforcement when it works best for their own schedules.
It allows for hegh profile enforcement at any time, helping to keep motorists sharp on their driving manners.

Beginning January 2009, Pennsylvania Smooth Operator will be opening the enforcement schedule from defined “waves” to a continual enforcement period. Each participating department will be able to conduct enforcement at any time during 2009. This will spread things out, allowing departments to schedule enforcement to suit their own needs and overcome scheduling difficulties. It will also enable police departments to provide high profile enforcement at any time during the year.

The wireless ENRADD units may be more available to you as well.

Red Light Running

Allentown SO 6 08 4.JPG Red Light Running

Most Smooth Operator enforcement seems to be focused on speeding. Speeding is the number one cause of crashes in Pennsylvania.
Red light running and other intersection crashes are a big problem too. Pictured here, Allentown Police Sergeant Joe Vargo issues a citation for a red light violation. Strict enforcement of red light violations can help reduce crashes in your community.

Wireless ENRADD

Pennsylvania Smooth Operator Region Three has five wireless ENRADD speed enforcement devices. They are for use by municipal police departments.

During Smooth Operator waves, they are for the sole use by Smooth Operator grantee police departments.

Outside the waves, they may be used by any police department with a wireless ENRADD trained officer.

Host departments are West Penn Township and Saint Clair, both Schuylkill County. Hazleton and Wyoming Borough, both Luzerne County. South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. Pocono Mountain Regional Police in Monroe County, and Colonial Regional Police Department, Northampton County.

Most units are available most of the time. Contact Bob Webre at 610-770-8805 for more information or scheduling.
